Jos Verwiel started out as a sculptor and despite the fact that he is now perhaps better known as a painter, his sculptures have been exhibited far abroad for years. First there were the monumental composite ceramic statues. Many parts were pressed in plaster molds and Verwiel subsequently developed a fine collection of cast bronze statues using the same molding method. Larger orders were taken in public spaces and before that there was frequent collaboration with construction companies. The images were more often made in brass and steel sheet or more recently in laser cut acrylic sheet. For one last major assignment he worked in molded polyester resin. Jos Verwiel is regularly commissioned for sculptures in collaboration with architects or municipal clients.
